Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, Saturday 13th April 2019
Engenie and Octopus Energy have joined forces in an exciting partnership to continue Engenie’s commitment to an 100% renewable electricity supply to our rapid charge point network.
Engenie’s rapid chargers are simple to use, with contactless payment, and can charge an EV with 75-100 miles in around 30mins, depending on the car and the way it is driven – perfect for drivers to top up while they eat, shop or even workout. Marston’s family- and business-orientated restaurants and pubs therefore provide an ideal location for rapid charging, with 200 sites planned in the next two years.
To celebrate the Engenie-Octopus partnership, Octopus Electric Vehicles ran a first Discovery Day at Engenie EV chargers at The Bakehouse, Welwyn Garden City, giving over 40 locals the chance to test drive and EV and many more the chance to talk with Engenie reps about driving electric and rapid charge points.
Octopus Electric Vehicles is also giving Welwyn Garden City locals who already have an EV three months of free unlimited charging at any Engenie rapid charger! EV drivers who live within 15 miles can enjoy the offer that runs from April through June 2019 by registering for an RFID card at: octopusev.com/ev-rewards.
The Discovery Day and free charging offer for locals is expected to be the first of a series of events at Engenie and Marston’s EV rapid charging sites.
Engenie plans to install 400 rapid charge points at 200 Marston’s sites across the UK by Dec 2020; the first UK partnership of its kind.
Ian Johnston, CEO of Engenie, said: “Re-fuelling is being revolutionised by the electric vehicle. Our first-of-its-kind partnership with Marston’s is part of our nationwide roll out of rapid charge points in places where people already spend time eating, shopping or meeting colleagues, friends and family. Through our partnership with Octopus Energy, Engenie is delighted to introduce our convenient rapid charging service, powered by 100% renewable energy, to even more people across the UK. Starting with the Welwyn Garden City Discovery Day at Marston’s Bakehouse pub, I’m looking forward to working with Fiona and the Octopus team to enable our customers to drive emissions-free and charge hassle-free.”
Fiona Howarth, CEO Octopus Electric Vehicles, said: “Reliable rapid charging with 100% green energy is critical for mass adoption of electric cars – supporting people without driveways, and those on longer journeys. Octopus is delighted to partner with Engenie, to supply and promote its efficient network at Marston’s restaurants and other great destinations across the country, helping clear up local air pollution and enabling us to move to a zero-carbon transportation.
This is a truly exciting partnership coming first to Welwyn Garden City, demonstrating just how convenient charging your car can be – whether while you eat and relax at an excellent Marston’s pub, or while you shop at say John Lewis or M&S, or even pop to the gym. Why detour for diesel when you can fill your car while you do stuff you love.”
Jon Davies, Waste and Recycling Co-ordinator at Marston’s added: “We continue to work really hard on ensuring Marston’s is a top performing progressive and sustainable hospitality company and this next stage of our Engenie partnership with Octopus is real testament to that. It is a really exciting time to be working alongside two game changers in the EV and renewable energy world and for Marston’s be able to host the Octopus and Engenie event at The Bakehouse is a great step forward to put EV’s at the forefront of people’s minds.”
